These photos were submitted by Tom Cox in the fall of 2014 October 16Late this afternoon saw BMI trucks on site pouring the foundation of the screened deck. Carl, his brother Jerry and Jason Snodgrass smooth the concrete at the top of the ICF to prepare for installation of the plate. This afternoon Ross Olsen was leveling the sand in the basement floor after the plumber, Joe Bates, had completed installation of below-slab drain lines, etc. Caleb and his father, Jerry Peterson, and Caleb's friend from Pine River, Nolan, begin application of Mel-Rol, the waterproofing sheeting of 60 mil thickness that covers the entire foundation and keeps the basement dry. George Kobe, one time of Kobe's Carvings near the "Y," waits for the Bobcat to finish smoothing the sand that now fills the cavity where the old green-roofed gravel filter stood in the south parking lot. George will run the packer over the sand to make sure it is solid when the pavers come to renovate the parking lot next spring. Here is Joe Bates aligning one of the drain lines that will lie beneath the floor slab in the basement. This was the scene a couple of days ago when the plumbing was just getting started. That's a sump and lift station in the upper left hand corner. Sewage will flow to the lift station and be pumped up and out through six 2,900 gallon septic tanks before flowing by gravity over to the parking lot where it will be "polished" before being pumped across 371 and up to the new drainfields. Here Carl and Jason are massaging concrete as it pours from the pumper into the frost footing forms. These footings will support the foundation of the small "off sale" room at the front of the building. Here is the what remained of the old gravel filter yesterday before all the piping and gravel were removed and replaced with sand. Here are the Northland Septic guys installing new piping in the existing tank up on the drainfield. That's a new riser they're working through to keep air flowing for their colleague who is down in the tank drilling holes for new piping. This tank will hold four pumps, each one serving a separate mound. The pumps will pump effluent to each field in rotating succession. Here's Carl guiding concrete into the ICF (insulated concrete forms) as it pours from the pumper. Another shot of Carl filling the ICF with concrete yesterday. Here's the overall scene of last week's concrete pour with a view of gorgeous Long's Bay in the background. I took this picture from on top of one of the piles of fill from the basement excavation. As you can see, it was a beautiful day - the weather recently has been beautiful, with temps in the mid-sixties, bright sun and a comfortable south breeze. I took this photo about 8:30 AM. You can see from the shadows that the sun isn't very high yet. Carl may pour the floor tomorrow, or early next week. Stay tuned.....
